THE WRITERS’ COMPANY

We understand how hard it is to create great stories, and how easy it is to destroy them.

Our mission

To create a home for exceptional writers where we can support, protect and develop their stories, from conception through production whether in film, tv or stage.

“WRITING IS a horrible, exhausting struggle

like a long bout with some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.”

— GEORGE ORWELL

AS WRITERS OURSELVES, we too have stared down the flashing cursor on a blank page, we too have mastered the skill of procrastination to avoid writing the difficult scene, and we too have barely survived the near-death experience of getting through a second act.

We created Lexicon in order to build a community of writers driven on by demons they can neither resist nor understand. Founded by Academy Award® winning screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris, (Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)), and dedicated to a ‘Script First’ approach, Lexicon NY is setting out to support, protect and challenge writers – from first timers to award winners - to make the creation and eventual production of great scripts a less painful, dare we say even enjoyable, process.

To be perfectly honest, our greatest hope is that by nurturing and encouraging the talent of other writers, we could completely avoid writing ourselves.

“THOSE WHO TELL THE STORIES
RULE THE WORLD”

— HOPI PROVERB

WE KNOW STORIES HAVE THE POWER to change how we define ourselves and each other.
We understand the danger of the Single Story.
We know not nearly enough voices are given the opportunity to be heard.
And so, it is our hope that the community of writers we create and their untold stories will challenge us and our collective view of life.
